In 2018 Cairns Quality Accounting celebrated its 10th anniversary! A small family oriented firm catering to a broad spectrum of clients, Cairns Quality Accounting and its dedicated staff strive to provide personalised services – from tax returns, accounting and lodging of BAS, bookkeeping, management and general consulting and auditing.
After completing a teaching degree Megan received a posting from Brisbane to Cairns. She loved the city and the friendly relaxed lifestyle Cairns offers, but after 2 years decided that teaching was not the career she wanted. When Megan’s parents moved to Cairns in 1994, her dad Alan Campbell bought an accounting firm – MC Nemec and rebranded to Alan J Campbell CPA.
Shortly after Megan came to work for her dad she decided to go back to studying, receiving her Masters in Accounting then going on to obtain CPA then FCPA status as well as Tax Agent registration and becoming a SMSF auditor and a Registered Company Auditor.
In the meantime, her dad merged his business with another accounting firm and Megan moved on to work for other accounting firms. Then in March 2008, she opened Cairns Quality Accounting and her dad was now working for her in the business until his retirement in 2015.
Megan has now lived in Cairns for close to 3 decades and has established herself as a finance industry leader, has mentored university students, been a member of the CPA Queensland Public Practice Committee, participated on several CPA Taskforce committees and has been a presenter at CPA Public Practice Residential schools and a guest speaker at a local CPA awards night.
The business has grown to more than 400 clients and 120 audit clients – many spread throughout remote areas in Qld, WA and NT. Megan has known some of her clients for over 20 years.
Within a constantly changing industry the business is embracing new technologies to keep in contact with clients. Using filesharing software in the endeavour to go paperless and maintain communication with clients anywhere in the world.
Megan wants to keep the business small and manageable and to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
We currently have four lovely staff members: Yvette Gosper – accountant and assistant auditor; Stacey Jeanes – accountant and ATO interpreter and Debbie Holliday – bookkeeper.
Megan’s focus is still on running and developing the business, and she believes the business is up for any challenges it may face and plans to keep moving the company forwards as a small, manageable, family friendly firm.
